Beyond the Renaissance: a Night Session for Modern Couples in Florence

A Different Vision of Florence

Florence is often introduced through the same familiar lens: Renaissance palaces, timeless piazzas, grand museums, and postcard-perfect sunsets. But for us, Florence has always been something more layered, more alive, and far more contemporary. This editorial was born from the desire to show a different side of the city — one made for couples who dream of a modern wedding in Florence, not a predictable one.

As creative wedding photographers, we have always been deeply inspired by cinema. We are unapologetic film lovers, and bringing this project to life, we were immersed in the visual poetry of Wong Kar-wai, especially his masterpiece In the Mood for Love. Its elegance, tension, color palette, and emotional intimacy became the emotional backbone of this shoot.
At the same time, there was another influence in the air: the dreamlike darkness and mysterious urban mood of David Lynch. That contrast between romance and surrealism became the creative spark that shaped everything.

We wanted to move beyond the traditional narrative of Florence as simply the cradle of the Renaissance. Instead, we imagined a Florence after dark: urban, electric, cinematic. A Florence of hidden cocktail bars, underground clubs, secret courtyards, neon reflections, and late-night fusion restaurants.

For couples planning a destination wedding in Florence, this city offers so much more than classical villas and historic halls. It can also become the perfect setting for an alternative, cinematic wedding experience with stylish, personal, and unexpected aura.
This is the Florence we wanted to tell, not the version designed for tourists, but the one still breathing beneath the surface.

An Asian Love Story in the Heart of Tuscany

To embody this vision, we worked with two extraordinary modern muses. Luna, a stunning Chinese bride, and Ken, of Filipino heritage, raised in Florence. Together, they represented the multicultural soul of today’s city, where histories, identities, and aesthetics meet naturally.
Their presence gave this project an authentic international spirit, making it especially meaningful for Asian couples who search for representation and inspiration when planning a wedding abroad.

Fashion for a Modern Wedding

For the first chapter, wandering through Florence at night, Luna wore a white qipao wedding dress: a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic Chinese silhouette. The result was elegant, cultural, and powerfully modern.
For the second chapter of the shoot, set inside a hidden Asian fusion restaurant tucked away in Florence’s historic center, Luna changed into a black minidress by Noell Maggini paired with a striking lime-colored, 100% animal-free coat by Maison Pop Couture. The venue itself felt like a secret New York speakeasy with intimate, moody, and unapologetically cool energy.
Her styling remained intentionally minimal. Soft, natural makeup and luminous skin allowed her features to speak for themselves. Instead of over-styling, we focused on statement accessories: purple-lensed sunglasses, bold textures, and playful shoes by 555 by Luca Villani.
Ken wore a pinstripe tailored suit with puffed sleeves, again by Noell Maggini, blending timeless tailoring with avant-garde attitude. A perfect reflection of what a modern wedding should feel like: rooted in elegance, yet unafraid to challenge convention.

Why Modern Couples Choose Florence

Today’s couples are no longer looking only for tradition. They want meaning, identity, and experiences that feel true to them. They want wedding imagery that reflects their real personalities, not outdated expectations.
That is why Florence remains one of the most powerful destinations in Europe, not only for classic luxury weddings, but for couples seeking something fresh, fashion-forward, and deeply personal.
As modern wedding photographers based in Tuscany, this is exactly the kind of story we love to tell: stylish celebrations with soul, emotion, and a strong sense of place.

Beyond Renaissance

The most rewarding part of any editorial or wedding project is always the same: starting from an aesthetic intuition, then slowly transforming it into something personal and alive.
This session was never only about fashion or visuals. It was about showing that Florence can still surprise you, belonging to modern lovers, multicultural stories, and bold new ideas.
For couples dreaming of a modern wedding in Florence, the city is still timeless, but it no longer has to look traditional.
